In The Garden… Revisiting

There hasn’t been much progress in my veggie garden. At the moment, my veggie garden has been cleared of all weeds, the soil has been turned over and they are sitting there waiting for the spring/summer planting season. So I thought I would go back and revisit some of the previous In The Garden posts.

In the Garden… my neglected veggie garden

neglectedgarden neglectedgarden1 neglectedgarden2 neglectedgarden3 neglectedgarden4 neglectedgarden5My poor veggie garden has been a little bit neglected lately. I really want to head outside and give it some tlc but it just gets pushed to the end of my to do list. Hence, my in the garden posts have been a bit scarce.

  • My first veggie box is taken over by weeds. The chooks have been getting a handful of these when I venture outside to hang the washing.
  • The swiss chard/silverbeet has become really tall and huge! Everytime I look out the kitchen window, I remind myself that I need to go and pick some.
  • I planted 4 bush cucumber seedlings, it seems like ages ago. And all I have to show for them is 1 cucumber! Not sure how to tell if it’s ready to be picked. Any tips on when it’s ready?
  • My third veggie box has so many parsley seedlings. I had a parsley plant there and let it go to seed. Well, this is what happens!! I can use my favourite word here, a plethora of parsley.
  • See, parsley is even coming up through the lawn. We have mowed over it twice and it’s still growing back. The positive thing with all this parsley, is that I have a ton or plethora of parsley to make dried parsley, yum!
  • I planted lettuce seeds in the veggie box where I had the old parsley plant. They started to emerge from the soil the same time the parsley shoots came up. I think they have been over run by parsley! What do you think?

Every Friday I would like to share with you an In The Garden post. You can join in too and you are more than welcome to share your garden or someone else’s. • The lettuce is continuing to grow.
  • The strawberry plant keeps on giving a strawberry here and there.
  • Gorgeous little wild violets are sprouting up near the garden shed.
  • The kids are playing with dirt and water. They love mixing up concoctions.
  • And of course Georgia, the four legged kid enjoys playing with the kids too!

What has been happening in your garden this week? Or have you visited a park or botanical gardens like I did last week.

I am continuing the In The Garden posts which Jacqui started over at Dusty Country Road. She posted them on her blog every Friday. Jacqui is taking a break for awhile so I thought I would keep it going. I love walking around my backyard and seeing what things are flowering or what has new growth. Anyone can join in and you are more than welcome to share your garden or someone else’s. All you need to do is leave a link in my comments and we can pop on over and have a look.

Happy gardening everyone!

In The Garden….. New growth

It’s Friday already and time for the In The Garden post. There is new growth growing in my veggie garden. With the rain and some sunny days the plants have really enjoyed it.newgrowthnewgrowth2newgrowth1newgrowth3

  • New growth of lettuce popping through the soil
  • New growth of parsley coming up. I had an old parsley plant there and left it to go to seed. What lovely little surprises!
  • My bush cucumbers are forming, how exciting!
  • The flowering of our rosemary bush. I think it’s telling me it needs to go in a bigger pot.

You can head on over to dusty country road and see what has been happening in Jacqui’s garden for this week. She has a plant that has amazing orange flowers. I am joining Jacqui every Friday for In The Garden post. Don’t forget to share what has been happening in your garden this week. In The Garden….. Clouds and rain

It has been overcast on a few days this week so the light hasn’t been too great with taking photos out in the garden. We did get some rain though which was good. The garden definitely did benefit from it. Our trees in the front garden were really needing a good soak. Any longer and we probably would have lost a few. I did get around to planting some lettuce seeds though. Now I wait for the start of their new growth to appear through the top of the soil.

  • Planting lettuce seeds
  • Pulling out the old lettuce
  • Our girls enjoying that lettuce, they all love their greens!
  • Two strawberries picked this morning, I shall enjoy them after lunch!

In The Garden….. A bit slow

gardengarden2garden1What has been happening In The Garden this week:

  • The rainbow chard has received treatment and is on the mend. The powdery mildew has gone. There are some nice big leaves that are ready to be picked, might use some on the weekend.
  • The rogue pumpkin plant is flowering. Will wait and see if anything grows.
  • More flowers from the strawberry plant are showing. Perfect little surprises!

And that’s about all that has been going on in our garden. I have been a bit slow in keeping up with the veggie garden. I would like to plant some more lettuce seeds and see what else that is in season that needs to be planted. I have been busy with other things. I have spent some more time with my crafting which keeps me inside most of the day. I hope to get out in the garden on the weekend and sow some seeds. Don’t want to fall too far behind with the veggie garden, got to keep those veggies growing!

You can head on over to dusty country road and see what is happening in Jacqui’s garden. She has got some great rainbow chard growing aswell. I am joining Jacqui every Friday for In The Garden post. In The Garden….. a bit of a problem

I think my veggies have something wrong with them. My cucumber and rainbow chard have a white substance on some of their leaves. I haven’t looked up what it could be yet. Does anyone know what it could be?

silverbeet silverbeet1 silverbeet2But there is one good thing in my garden, the basil is growing really well and loving their position of sun and shade. And my strawberry plant has given me a strawberry that is nearly ready to pick.

strawberryWhat is growing in your garden? Are there any new flowers opening up or new shoots appearing ?
